LIVING: Lounge in northern Green Valley set to celebrate first anniversary
-Elixir bar manager Teresa Kelly gives iH a tour of the northern Green Valley lounge that opened it’s doors in August. Elixir offers gaming, a D.J on Thursdays, live music on Fridays and Saturdays and other food, drink and giveaway specials throughout the week.
“We have about ten different artists that rotate through here,” says Kelly of the weekend performances. “We’re so lucky to have them. Every once in a while they have really exciting guest stars that come with them, out of the blue, so you never know who’s going to show up.”
Elixir’s kitchen serves quality, straight forward lounge fare, from chicken sandwiches with bacon, Swiss cheese and avocado to fresh salmon with rice pilaf and asparagus.
“Everything on the menu is made fro scratch,” says Kelly. “From our salad dressing to our sauces.”
One of the most popular appetizers is the three-way meatballs, topped with marinara, alfredo and pesto sauces respectively, and is a personal favorite of Kelly. “It’s amazing.”
Kelly created the lounge’s signature cocktail menu. “We wanted to create classic cocktails, but (re-imagine) them. For our signature cocktail, we wanted something red to go with the building. Something funky, fruity, not too sweet. It’s got a sugar rim on it, a candy garnish, you drink it through a licorice straw.”
When you’re here, you really feel like you stepped away from your normal life and you’re in some place really fun.
Although guests come from across the Valley and beyond, the core crowd is local, which Kelly says is what the operators intend. “We get people from all over, but at the end of the day, we’re a neighborhood bar. When you’re here, you really feel like you stepped away from your normal life and you’re in some place really fun.”
