SPRING Style Spruce-Up
I often get questions about how to spruce up one’s closet — especially when spring rolls around. I tell people to look for wardrobe inspiration in nature, art, photography, and to pay attention to colors that appeal to them.
I’m going to describe what I’m loving this Spring and offer a few ideas to spark interest in finding more of what your own personal style is.
Identify your style
It’s not so fun to update your look if you don’t know what you like about style, right?
I’m always surprised when people don’t know what they love. I’m pretty sure you’ll find your style inspiration in the world around you far more than you will find it by looking at clothing racks. Try creating several vision boards, not just of clothing but things that are beautiful to you. Notice what you like about design, patterns, contrast, photography.
Personal style will vary from person to person. We all have different taste but sometimes I think we forget to imagine the best stylized version of ourselves when we look at clothing. That’s where the vision boards come in: tools like Pinterest, art work and magazines are great places for inspiration. Get started by looking for clothing in your favorite colors. and group them into collections, either cut out and pasted into a notebook or electronically into a program like Pinterest.
Revisit the classics
Consider adding a few new classic pieces of clothing that are timeless like a great denim jacket or crisp white top.
I love wearing white in Spring time. There’s something about a bold lipstick and bright white top… just feels happy!
Hello to sunny days ahead!!!
A well made white top and denim jacket are both timeless splurge-worthy pieces.
Mix it up
I like to mix dressy with casual. Think of vintage graphic tee with full skirt or denim mixed with big print, like polka dot.
I just “WENT FOR IT” with this skirt from Shabby Apple. I think it looks like something Scarlet O’hara or maybe even Mary Poppins would wear. That pretty much sums why it makes me smile.
This skirt came in the mail and its also been packed into my suitcase a few times. I’ve never ironed it once! Hooray for zero wrinkles and making me want to twirl!
Shabby Apple is my favorite dress site.
Check out new trends
The jogger style Jean is trending this season: dressed up here with nude heels and bright top.
I’m loving these jogger style pants. They’re comfortable, lightweight, inexpensive and great for our warm weather.
Graphic tee shirts are everywhere right now. Mix them in with a skirt, vest, kimono, jeans, workout wear, WHATEVER, you name it!!!
Gabby is is looking super RAD in a Tee from Forever 21 with a skirt from Mosaic.
I think the word RAD might be from my day and age but look here, I got a teenager to wear it. Ha!!
Floral prints are always a good idea in Spring time.
I like the contrast of navy and hot pink in this high low top.
Floral prints plus crown braids!!! Click here for a tutorial on crown braids.
One of the things I truly love doing is helping people find their inner muse and drawing it out to define their personal style –a style that makes them feel comfortable and confident.
