Take the Step!
Check out the new issue of Inside Henderson. I feel so lucky to be part of this beautiful classy magazine dedicated to the city I love.
Fitness is a big part of my life, and I have a little more to add that might help you stay motivated, along with some additional recommendations for some fun workout wear I’m loving lately.
Enjoy the journey.
“I’ve learned that everybody wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while climbing it” – Andy Rooney
I love this quote!! So true!!! It’s all about the journey.
Try working out with a positive person, and focus on something that will keep you going, like looking for that sunrise or sunset while you’re running.
Remember that thing called growth stretches and pulls, and sometimes hurts, but it’s worth it when you actually look around. I promise you’ll find a beautiful view.
Break a sweat.
Getting out the door is the hardest part. Whether it’s walking, biking, or any other outdoor activity, just taking the first step can sometimes be the challenge.
That positive workout partner can be the factor that helps you take the first step out the door. My 10 year old son, Crew, is a huge motivator for me when it comes to hitting the hills for a run. Rain or shine, he’s ready to beat our previous distance.
Taking a photo of your adventures and keeping track of distance can be fun and motivating. Crew and I started a little Instagram account to track our progress and post our pictures. It’s also been a great way to journal what we talk about on the trails.
Use an app to get yourself started.
When I first started running a few years ago I couldn’t make it to the end of my street before I was dreading every single step. I sort of hated that little app on my phone, Couch to 5k.
However, I’m glad I listened to that annoying little voice, because now I actually enjoy running! Once I found some trails with great views, running became a source of stress relief for me, and it became routine. This was when Nevada started looking scenic and beautiful to me. The lava rock and sunsets are out there. Don’t miss ‘em!!
Try a new activity or gym.
There’s nothing like YOGA for me when it comes to building flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance!! It increases core stability and improves coordination and balance. I find the perfect blend of strength mixed with calm in my little yoga world.
I love a studio called Body Heat Yoga and Pilates at Eastern Ave. and Pebble Rd. It’s a unique place with a spa like vibe. Room temps are right around 100 degrees — perfect to get your stretch and your sweat on
I have found some of the most genuine, kind people in the yoga community, and I love all the positive vibes I get at this place.
Feel good in your clothes.
What’s not to love about all the prints you can find in yoga wear these days?
Hello quirky yoga pants!!! Tigers and GALAXY pants, oh my!!!
These pairs were both inexpensive and just plain, ridiculous fun. I found them at Forever 21.
Lululemon workout pants . . . talk about a comfy pair of multitasking leggings! I can wear them with anything! Not only are they supportive and durable workout bottoms, they also double as a pair of basic leggings in my wardrobe.
Sometimes I wear this pair bunched up over chunky ankle boots, and they’re also great paired with heels and a longer top. It’s worth the splurge to own a few pair of lulu lemon pants.
The jogger pant. Menswear — say what??
Try hitting the men’s department at any store for a pair of loose jogger pants. I guess these are kinda like the boyfriend jeans of workout wear. They’re SUPER comfy and warm.
I’ve lived in these over the winter months. They’re especially great to slip into on cold mornings.
Overall, treat yourself to attitudes, goals, workout partners, and other resources that will add the variety you need to keep yourself motivated until a more active lifestyle or new activity becomes natural.
Take the step! Break a sweat! Enjoy the journey!!!
