Beach waves and natural texture are still enjoying their major moment in the hair world. The phrase “beach waves” is being typed into search engines more than any other hair term right now.
It seems like a pretty care free vibe – “Hey, I just woke up like this with all my waves cascading in all the right messy directions.”
Read on for my tips on getting the carefree vibe in a carefree way:
PUT THE BLOW DRYER AWAY FOR THE SUMMER.
The not-so-great thing about air-styled carefree hair is that it usually has fuzzy flyaways and unpredictable texture.
DON’T BLOW IT.
If there’s any one product that will help you have fuzz free hair this summer it’s the newest Bumble and bumble. product, Don’t Blow It. I really like this for naturally wavy hair.
With just this one product, the hair stays soft and bouncy. It has plant-based conditioning and all the right ingredients for wavy texture.
I love that it feels light and gives me loose waves.
Try putting it in damp hair and scrunching it, or if your hair is straight try this product on damp hair and let it dry in a bun or braids for the perfect fuzz free waves.
INFUSE THE SURF.
Surf Infusion oil and salt-infused spray is another new fave. It can be used in a variety of ways.
Spray and scrunch onto curled hair for the tousled, slightly wavy, messy look.
It’s also great to spray on 2nd or 3rd day hair. Sometimes I use this after taking braids out to give the hair separation and roughed up texture. Try wrapping your hair in figure 8 sections with either of these products and letting it air dry.
Another tip I give my hair clients is to set the hair up nicely just once and it’ll last you for a few days to come. If waves fall out of your hair when you use a curling iron, try pinning the hair with clips while each section is still hot. If the hair cools in that shape it will stay. This will give you super-full curls on day one.
By day 3 you can brush out the waves to be more relaxed like photo below:
SEE WHAT COLOR CAN DO FOR YOUR HAIR.
I recently went from dark brown to this blonde color, and I feel like I have twice as much hair. My hair has never felt this healthy. Plus, color treated hair is always easier to style.
Make sure your stylist is using this if you are going to lighten your hair. It goes into the bleach and restores the bonds of your hair making it expand and actually healthier.
DEEP CONDITION ONCE A WEEK!
It takes an extra ten minutes, but it’s worth it – especially when you live in the desert.
Save time by putting a deep conditioning treatment in your hair before your workout. I use Olaplex #3 (a home conditioning treatment version of the coloring additive mentioned above) on my hair before I go for a run, then wash it all out when I’m finished. Ask your stylist about using Olaplex #3 to keep all the light hair hydrated.
